Community Advisory Board Guidelines
Welcome to the Community Advisory Board Guidelines webpage. The Guidelines were created by the Community Engagement Core for the Center for Indigenous Environmental Health Research. We created the Guidelines to improve the effectiveness of involving Community Advisory Boards (CABs) in community-engaged research. Given the few existing resources and tools accessible to both researchers and community members, our goal was to create a set of Guidelines that academic-community partnerships could tailor to their specific projects.
The Guidelines consist of three sections: formation, operation, sustainability and evaluation. Each section includes best practices and interactive worksheets to facilitate CAB decision-making and planning.
Table of Contents
Since the Guidelines were created, individuals from around the globe have requested a copy to use for their projects that involve CABs. We welcome others to use our Guidelines. To access a PDF version of the Guidelines, we invite you to participate in a study to help us improve the development and implementation of the Guidelines. If you agree to participate in the study, you will be asked to answer two short online surveys. The first online survey includes questions about you, your project, and your familiarity with Community Advisory Boards. After you have completed the survey, we will email you a copy of the Guidelines. A few months later we will send you an email and ask you to complete a second online survey about your experiences using the Guidelines. Each survey should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. Your responses will be kept confidential. Access the consent form for our study
